GIRLS!

 Hello

Good-bye

Laughter

Tears

Prayers

Healing

Forgiveness

My heart was so excited for our mom/girls week-end. And we did all of the above! Parenting (and they still are our babiesJ) adult girls brings its own challenges. Stepping back and letting them be big girls, pride in their accomplishments. Seeing their love for God shine through their love for each other. We talked of serious things, silly things, ate popcorn and watched Hallmark, and my first hockey game! How does my heart feel now? As with all visits it went so fast, but I have all those memories tucked away in the “memory keeper” of my heart.

Make time to do what makes you happy.

A happy heart is good medicine and a joyful mind causes healing…Proverbs 17:22 AMP

I CAN!

I DON’T

I WON’T

I CAN’T

I was talking to my sisters recently about the things we do and don’t do. I’ll use driving at night as an example. If I say I don’t drive at night. Then my thinking becomes, I won’t drive at night. And pretty soon we believe we can’t drive at night. What’s the solution? SPEAK a step of faith. Say…I do. I will. I can. AND YOU CAN TOO!

…for there will be nothing to fear. Micah 4:4 NLV

PERSEVERANCE

For the second time today I have read words like perseverance, patience, practice. Is God trying to tell me something, to encourage me? I think so. Perseverance is tenacity, determination, staying power. In today’s world it is easy…to give up when something doesn’t go just right, throw away what I don’t like and get new, get impatient when it takes longer than I think it should. So what is God telling me? It’s a decision. As parents we encourage our children to never give up, as God’s kid He tells us to never give up. So send out another query, make a decision to eat right (again), call a neighbor, send a card, ______________ fill in the blank. How thankful I am that He never gives up on me and YOU! Therefore, since God in his mercy has given us this new way, WE NEVER GIVE UP. 2 Corinthians 4:1NLT

Generation to generation!

Mom teaching her children to make applesauce, then our children, then their children, then teaching—well—this next generation is more in the tasting stage!!! If you look at the picture you might be wondering what applesauce has to do with bees and kindness. It’s not really about the food it’s about passing love and stories from generation to generation to generation. So when I got this picture from my granddaughter last week, oh my heart. Passing kindness from generation to generation, learning from the generations before her.  Each of us must tell the next generation the life stories. How will they know unless we tell them? Psalm 78:5 ….then commanded our parents to teach it to their children. So the next generation would know and all the generations to come.

…tell your children a story of God’s faithfulness today.

SUPER!

How many times have you heard the word ‘super’ bowl in the last week? How do we use the word super? We might tell someone that was a super meal, that was a super message, or I’m super tired. It made me wonder what does the word super actually mean. The dictionary defines super as very good, pleasant, excellent, something great, wonderful—you get the idea. We hear a lot about super foods these days. We have super glue, super stars, and even Superman.  But what is ‘super’ in my life is the real question…..MY GOD. MY FAMILY.

Take a moment to make a list of the super in your life. Then tell them. SUPER YOU!

EGGS!

A sewing rocker, grandma’s apron, mom’s sewing basket, an “egg”, and my grandson’s sock! Seems like an unlikely combination to some, but brings back memories for me. Grandma always wore an apron, she would settle into the chair her apron became her work surface. The sewing basket was always full of socks with holes, thanks to us eight kids! They would dump the basket of socks onto their lap, slip the “egg” inside the sock and slowly sew the hole closed. The “egg” protected their fingers from getting stuck. We never threw a sock away just because it had a hole in it. It’s somehow comforting thinking of Mom and Grandma darning our socks, rocking, a simpler life. Maybe they chatted about the weather, the garden or the latest antic of one of us kids, or maybe they enjoyed the quiet time, doing what needed to be done. Darning with an egg!

Do not despise these small beginnings……Zechariah 4:10 NLT

What do you do with a hole?

What do YOU do with a hole?

Several months ago a friend of ours talked about holes during prayer. He said we need holes in our lives for God to fill up. For example… God filled some holes with water and we call them the Great Lakes! It made me start thinking about holes. What is a hole? At first I thought about holes in socks, mud holes, holes that provide homes for animals, or donut holesJ. But what if my hole is a blank piece of paper waiting for a story. Or a lump of clay waiting for a pot. Or a piece of material waiting to be a blanket for a sick baby. Or an empty day planner waiting for God to fill it with His plans. (Not mine) I’m going to start paying attention to the holes in my life—how about you?

A hole is a space where everything has been moved out so that opportunity has a space to move in. Craig D. Lounsbrough

I CAN

As I drove to my daughter’s house…to show me how to post my blog entry…AGAIN! I was thinking. Why can’t I get this? I have detailed directions. I am a grown women and a teacher after all. The list of things I can’t do begins to grow and grow and grow. But before I could convince myself I can never get this God stepped in and stopped my downhill slide. When we become so focused on what we can’t do or what is difficult for us we completely forget what we can do. Right now make a list of all the things you can do, things you enjoy doing, things that are easy for you to do…when you finish look at your I CAN list of God given abilities and say “thank-you.”

And yes I CAN learn to post my blog, and, I will be patient as I learn. Because, I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength. Phil 4:13

It’s a New Year!

INSPIRATIONAL

ENCOURAGING

GOAL SETTING

Some of the words that come to mind as I read posts from family and friends this New Year’s Day. I’m reminded how precious life is from beginning to end. I’m blessed to have family who cares for me and my welfare. I’m tempted to look back and dwell on what ifs and losses in 2018 – BUT I choose to look forward to what the Lord has in store for me and my family in 2019. AND, to remember that Jesus is the author and finisher of my (and your) life. HAVE A BLESSED AND PROSPEROUS 2019.
